About Word Shortcuts

Microsoft Word first shipped in 1983 for DOS under the name Multi-Tool Word, became Microsoft Word in 1989, and has dominated the word-processor market ever since — used by an estimated 1.5 billion people worldwide in 2026. Word's keyboard shortcuts are designed around the document model: cursor moves character-by-character or word-by-word, formatting is character/paragraph-level, and Ctrl+Enter inserts a page break. This reference card covers the most-used 110+ shortcuts across 8 functional areas: Common commands, Text editing, Selection, Formatting, Paragraphs, Document navigation, Tables, Review & comments. All entries are transcribed from Microsoft's official Word documentation (Windows + Mac variants side-by-side). How to use - Pick your platform (Windows / macOS) at the top — keys change immediately. Default detected from User-Agent and saved to localStorage. - Type any word in the search box (e.g. "comment", "track changes", "table") to filter. Search matches feature names and keys on both platforms. - Click any row's Copy button to grab the current platform's key string. - Export PNG (2400×1140 landscape) for a printable wallpaper; PDF for a single A4 landscape page. Tips - Ctrl+B / Ctrl+I / Ctrl+U are the universal bold/italic/underline — works everywhere. Pair with Ctrl+Shift+> / Ctrl+Shift+< to grow/shrink font size one step at a time. - F7 is spell-check in every Office app. Shift+F7 opens the thesaurus. - Ctrl+K inserts a hyperlink; Ctrl+Shift+K toggles font color (Word 2007+); Ctrl+W closes document. - Triple-click selects a paragraph. Double-click selects a word. Ctrl+click adds non-contiguous selection. Why this separate from vscode-shortcuts? Word has its own shortcut ecosystem tied to documents, paragraphs, and tables. Mixing it with IDE shortcuts would dilute the tool. This separation keeps each printable as one page.
